Oakly Gets A Seal of Approval

Recently while walking along Ward Beach we came across a seal and Oakly was totally captivated.

He approached it calmly and cautiously. The seal was equally fascinated and appeared relaxed in our company. After posing for a few photos he/she lay back down to continue snoozing in the sun.

Afterwards Oakly kept a look out for more seals. At times pieces of seaweed had us both fooled. From a distance they looked seal-like, and Oakly would sit and watch, waiting for movement.

Maybe Oakly and I need to make an appointment with Specsavers?

Eventually we were rewarded with the real deal.

I think Oakly's face sums up how he felt about his seal encounters.

Bike Ride With My Best Buddy

Whenever I say the word 'bike' to Oakly he gets all excited. He adores being in the buddy rider on the front of my bike. It gives him a great view, with new smells, plus we often stop so he can stretch his legs and explore.

Monaco was the destination for this ride and we struck it lucky to have the tide in, so we got to see some reflections.

Looking from Monaco towards Richmond, across Waimea Inlet.
The Honest Lawyer - a great place to stay in your motorhome.

The beach was our first stop and Oakly chased and dug up stones, which is his favourite thing to do.

It was a stunning Nelson spring day, with a cloudless, blue sky and many delicious smells of blossom wafting about.

When evening arrived, it brought with it a lovely warm glow.

And as the sun set over Monaco it began with a golden glow before ending with splashes of pinks and mauves.

Worth Getting Up Early

Cyclone Cook was predicted to bring high winds and flooding. Unfortunately the North Island suffered most of it's fury. We got off lightly in Nelson. A few days of rain, cloud and miserable weather and it was all over.
This morning I woke just after 6am and saw a tinge of blue in the sky. I grabbed my camera and whispered in Oakly's ear that we were going in the car ( I had to whisper because if the other two came with us, it wouldn't be a relaxed sunrise experience).
We headed to the Boulder Bank and had it to ourselves. It's a beaut place to watch the sun rise.

It looked like the spot to build driftwood huts. There were over a dozen huts built along the shore line.

A few paradise duck couples were enjoying the early morning too. Oakly was interested but never approached any.

The Boulder Bank had calm seas this morning. Sometimes when the weather cuts up, it's a good spot for surfers. So, although I missed getting surfies in action, I loved watching the new day dawn with my furry friend.

The cows seemed oblivious to the start of a new day ...

After our walk, we (Oakly & I ) jumped in the car to head home for breakfast. It was a little bonus seeing a rainbow as we drove along Rocks Road.

Happy Place

Where's your 'Happy Place'?
Mine would be the beach. And it's Oaklys as well. He likes digging in the sand and chasing after sticks - while I like clicking away with my camera and watching Oakly enjoying himself.

So the other night, Oakly and I set off for our 'Happy Place'. I managed to capture some moody skies and Oakly didn't have to compete with the other two dogs for attention.

It really is time we set off traveling about on the road. I'm running out of new places around Nelson to take photos of!
